Liebster Awards!!!

Hi guys! Finally back from RA Training! I had the best time. My staff is amazing. I really couldn’t ask for anything more. It was so hard saying goodbye to my RA family but I am so excited for Italy!! Only 4 more days!

Now onto the Liebster award nominations! Thank you to  All eyes on fashion, Stilestilo, and The Woman in the Dress for  nominating me for the Liebster Award! I’m very excited because I’m new to blogging so I wasn’t expecting anything like this 🙂

The Liebster award is given to up and coming bloggers who have less than 200 followers. The word “Liebster” is German for favorite, beloved, or dearest.

Screen shot 2013-08-16 at 8.31.12 AM

Here are the rules for the Liebster Award:

1. Each nominee must link back the person who nominated them.

2. Answer the 10 questions which are given to you by the nominator.

3. Nominate 10 other bloggers for this award who have less than 200 followers.

4. Create 10 questions for your nominees to answer.

5. Let the nominees know that they have been nominated by going to their blog and notifying them.

Here are the questions that All Eyes on Fashion asked me:

1. Who knows you the best?

Undoubtedly, the person who knows me the best is my twin sister, Kristen. You’d be hard pressed to find something she doesn’t know about me!

2. What’s your dream location spot?

I’m assuming this means the location I would want to end up in (live in). In that case, definitely New York City. There’s no place I would rather call home!

3. What are the 5 things you must bring on a vacation?

                     1. Sunscreen – I have had a bad habit lately of abandoning sunscreen in order to try and tan (I have a very hard time, even though I’m Brazilian) but it’s just not good for your skin! I always bring sunscreen with me wherever I go.

                     2. Red Lipstick – I will usually only choose to wear it when I’m going out somewhere fancy but I still need to bring it with me. Ever since I was a little girl I have been obsessed with red lips!

                     3. A Maxi Dress – This is such an easy thing to throw on if you’re running out of time to get ready or you forgot to shave your legs 🙂 They’re also very easy to accessorize!

                     4. Every Pair of Sunglasses I Own – I love sunglasses. They are probably my biggest style obsession! I just bought a new pair of aviators yesterday 🙂 I honestly feel that you can never have too many. I always bring an absurd amount of sunglasses just so I have a lot to choose from!

                     5. Arcona Eye Dew – I saw this on Barefoot Blonde and decided to try it for myself. It works wonders! I use it every day before I put on makeup and every night before I go to bed. Definitely recommend this product!

4. Do you like ombre hair and would you consider trying it?

I love the look of ombre hair but I would never try it. Unless I start going gray I never plan on coloring my hair!

5. How do you like new trend on nails – art or not?

I love nail art. There is definitely an understated elegance to basic nails but nail art really catches my eye. Whenever I have nail art on my nails I can’t stop looking at them!

6. Whos’ the style icon for you?

I am inspired by a bunch of different people. I really don’t look for one style icon in particular. I once took a style icon quiz and it told me my style icon was Jennifer Aniston because “Just like America’s sweetheart, your style is timeless, elegant and sophisticated. You know what hairstyles, clothes and makeup look best on you and know how to effortlessly work in a few trendy pieces” so I guess that works. I also love Heidi Klum and Blake Lively’s style.

7. What is the best outfit for a first date?

Skinny jeans (preferably ones with zippers at the ankles) with pumps and a top that brings out your eyes. I, personally, like green because my eyes are hazel.

8. What was the reason you started a blog?

I started a blog because one of my co-workers heard that I was going abroad and said it would be a great idea to start a travel blog. I wanted to talk about more than just travel so here I am!

9. What book would be your best summer read?

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte or The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory.

10. What is the best advice someone gave you?

My mom always told me to just to be myself and not let anyone or anything take that away from me. I never let go of that advice.

Here are the questions that The Woman in the Dress asked me:

1. What are the 5 words that best describe you?

Positive, energetic, compassionate, adventurous, and loving

2. How would you define your style?

I wouldn’t. I am a very indecisive person and I am influenced by so many different kinds of fashion. I could be boho-chic one day and classic Audrey Hepburn the next 😛

3. What is your favorite item in your closet and why?

My thigh-high, zippered, chesnut, boots. I wear them with cream colored leg warmers every chance I get during the fall and winter!

4. What is your favorite thing to do in your downtime?

I love to watch old reruns of Will and Grace, HIMYM, Everybody Loves Raymond, Friends, and Seinfeld with my twin sister.

5. If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go?

Brazil because that’s where my mom was born.

6. Hot or cold?

7. Do you shop online? If you do, what are 3 of your favorite online stores?

YES! 3 of my favorite stores are Asos, Forever21, and Nasty Gal.

8. What is your biggest pet peeve?

Oh god I have too many. Not having chapstick with me, umbrellas being opened indoors, slow-walkers, not walking on the right side of people, etc.

9. Have any guilty pleasures? Share at least one.

“We Can’t Stop” by Miley Cyrus and watching Desperate Housewives and Gossip Girl

10. Why did you start your blog?

Study Abroad (more detailed answer in first set of questions.)

Here are the questions that Stilestilo asked me:

1. What is your favorite designer?

It’s a tie between Burberry and Alice and Olivia

2. Why is he/she your favorite designer?

I love Burberry’s trench coats (who doesn’t?!) and Alice and Olivia has such a classic chic look to it!

3. If you could choose any city to live in, which one would it be?

                Definitely New York City!

4. What language would you like to speak?

Portuguese because my mother is fluent.

5. Who is the most important person in your life?

Hands down, my twin sister, Kristen.

6. Why did you start blogging?

               Study abroad

7. Would you rather wear heels or flats?

As much as I love heels I would have to say flats. When I wear heels I usually end up barefoot by the end of the day 🙂

8. What sport do you like the most?

I like to play softball but I like watching football.

9. What do you think about the new issue on the latest Vogue: About cat eye sunglasses?

This is actually the only trend I have ever been ahead of. I saw a pair of cat eye sunglasses at Aldo AGES ago and I just fell in love with them! I bought it in both colors they had (black and tortoise). I’m obsessed with them.

10. What do you think about my blog?

I think it’s really cute! I would love it if you could find someone to take your photographs and edit them to look a bit more professional because the outfits are adorable!

And here who I nominate:

1.  The Charm of Life

2. The Woman in the Dress

3. Veloria in Velvet

4. Total Stephanie Move

6. My Crazy New york Post-Grad Life

7. The fashion glitter

8. Blogthebutterfly

9. Fashion is just a Trend

10. Blog by the M

RA Training

First and foremost I would like to thank those of you who nominated me for the Liebster award! I am so honored 🙂 Unfortunately, I can’t make my picks or answer the questions until I get back from RA training on the 20th, but I promise it will be the first thing I do when I get home!

Second, I’m just going to do an update about how RA training has been! The past two days have been incredible! My staff for my building this year is amazing and the whole RA staff in general is incredible!! So many wonderful people 🙂 I feel so blessed to be here with everyone. I am almost sad to be going abroad because it means I will have to leave my RA family 😦 But then I think of Italy and I feel a little bit better haha

Today the whole staff went to an Iron Pigs game (the minor league team for the Phillies). I had funnel cake and chicken fingers, did the cotton eye joe AND the Gangnam Style dance with my staff, and got to see a fireworks show after the game 🙂 It was absolutely incredible and I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!

As always, thank you for reading!

RA Training

Hey everyone! Just wanted to let you all know that I will be at RA training until next week and won’t have access to a computer. So I won’t be posting for the next few days. But I will be sure to post next week about my awesome experience!
Hope you have a great week! Thanks for reading!

Jelly Rollers!

So my mom is Brazilian. She was born down in Porto Alegre, a little town all the way at the southern tip of Brazil. I always loved having that as a part of my heritage. I have a lot of her Brazilian traits! For instance, I got her curves, her hazel eyes and, most importantly, her hair. Long, thick, brunette hair with natural highlights, red in the fall and winter and strawberry blonde in the spring and summer. I have literally never colored or highlighted my hair. Too many of my friends don’t even know what their natural color is or they’re scared to dye their hair again because they think it will fall out! I could never do that to my hair. It’s beautiful and healthy and I love it.

But as much as I love it, it’s also incredibly stubborn! It gets really frizzy, it breaks through every hair tie I attempt to put it in, and I need to use hundreds of bobby pins in my hair to get anything to stay! (I had hair all the way down to my butt for my brother’s wedding and it took 107 bobby pins to keep my updo in. And that was after getting it done by a professional hairdresser!!) But the absolute worst thing about my hair is it WILL NOT CURL. (For my 7th grade semi-formal I got my belly button length hair curled all the way up to my shoulders AND the hairdresser used almost half a bottle of hairspray. By the time the dance started 4 hours later, the curls were completely out!) And you know what they say: if you have curly hair, you want straight hair and if you have straight hair, you want curly hair. Well I REALLY wanted curly hair!!

I would constantly look at tutorials on YouTube and think ‘hmmmm… maybe this person has the one thing that will work for me…’ But they all use these small little curling irons or wands and that is just not gonna cut it. Sure I could take really small pieces but what they could accomplish in their 5-10 minute video would take me at least 2 hours! And it’s not even like the curls would last!! And then I would think about all of the girls whose hair was even thicker than mine! It just wasn’t fair. I would have a moment of silence for myself and them, put my unmanageable mane in a messy pony and get back to my busy day.

Finally, my mom found these curlers called Conair Jelly Rollers on eBay and decided to give them a try. I’ll admit, I was hesitant that I would be let down again, but I was also desperate so I tried them. I couldn’t believe how long the curls lasted! Not only were they beautiful, full curls but they lasted all day and into day 2! I will never use anything else to curl my hair.

So if you have hair like mine I would definitely suggest trying these. Here is an impromptu before and after since my curlers are still packed away:

Here is a picture of my hair before. It’s completely natural. I didn’t straighten or brush it. (I don’t like to brush my hair :P)

And this is a picture (ironically still with my friend Jesse) of my hair curled with the Jelly Rollers! For this look, I only kept the curlers in for about 6 minutes. You can keep them in longer for tighter, longer lasting curls!

Hope you guys enjoy this post! If you’re interested in purchasing these rollers, here is a link to some that I found on eBay! Thanks for reading!

Packing Tips!

Ok so I have promised this post for a while now and I’m finally doing it! I honestly think I postponed it because I didn’t want to think about it myself but, now I have packed a successful mock suitcase, I felt like it was time to share my tips with you guys. This post is going to be catered specifically to my experience, which will be extended international travel, but the majority of the tips could help almost any traveler’s needs.

There were a few steps that I needed to take before I was fully prepared to start packing my mock suitcase!

  1. First, I made a list of all of the things I wanted to take. Now when I say I made a list, I mean that I wrote down every specific item from every pair of jeans to every necklace I wished to take abroad. After making that list, I made another list that separated the items into checked luggage, my carry-on, and my purse. This may seem a little unnecessary but believe me, it helps! (You will always have important documents such as passports and visas in your carry on or other handheld luggage (purse))

  1. The next thing I did was the hardest of all. I got all of the items on my list and laid them out to sort through. Because I am biased (especially with my clothing and jewelry), I employed my sister to help me figure out what was and was not necessary to take. To my surprise, I was about to scale it down quite a bit! There are a lot of things you have to consider when packing for a trip like this. For example, if you have a piece of clothing that doesn’t layer well, chances are you shouldn’t bring it. You want to bring things that you can layer so that you can wear it in most kinds of weather. You also want to bring things that are lighter since a lot of places abroad don’t provide dryers. I know Italy doesn’t. Yup… you heard right. I’ll be line-drying for 3 ½ months.

  1. After you’ve got all your clothes, accessories, necessities, etc. taken care of, go online (or make a quick call to your airline) to see what the size and weight requirement for your baggage is. This will determine how well you will be able to use your carry on. When packed strategically, your carry on can take a lot of weight off of your checked baggage. Getting this information will also help you figure out whether or not you should bring a second check bag. I have decided that that is going to be best for me. Remember, you want to have room for the souvenirs you will take back with you while still avoiding baggage fees!

Now you’re ready to pack! You should always pack a mock suitcase a couple of days before just so you know what you’re getting yourself into. Decide how many bags you’re going to check, the weight of each bag, etc. You want to make sure that, however many bags you have decided to bring, you can carry it through the airport by yourself. I’m probably going to look like a crazy person with 2 enormous checked bags, my carry on and my purse, but I have tested carrying all of it and it’s doable.

When you are packing your mock suitcase (or when you are finally packing the real thing, you want to start by rolling your clothing instead of folding it. Rolling your clothing will get a lot of the air out of the garments and make everything lighter and more compact; two very important things when packing a suitcase.

Another tip that’s useful when packing is to stuff undergarments, socks, etc. into your boots. This will also save room.

Now that all of this is done, there’s only one more thing to do: Get locks for your bag! The people who will be handling your luggage at the airport deal with thousands of bags every day! Bags are not typically handled with that much care. You are NO exception. Getting locks for your checked baggage is important for this reason ALSO, if your bag ends up in the wrong hands or gets lost, nobody can go snooping around all of your beloved items (obviously they mean a lot to you if you chose to take them). It might also be a good idea to buy locks for your carry-on luggage if you have a long layover. With layovers that are upwards of 5-6 hours, there is the chance that you are going to watch to catch some sleep. That being said, there are a lot of people hustling and bustling inside airports and if one of their hands just so happens to sneak inside of your carry on while you’re sleeping… well… let’s just say it won’t happen because you took my advice and your bag is locked 🙂

I hope these are helpful tips! If you guys have any further questions on packing advice or want to share any tips, feel free to comment or email me! Thanks for reading!

Yesterday I posted about how obsessed I am with Julep. In addition to Julep there are a few more things I’m geeking out about right now:

Kate Spade Far From the Tree Resin Apple Bag: I’ve been in love with this new Kate Spade bag ever since I saw it on Pinterest. This bag is way out of my current price range at $328! But I can dream, can’t I? I have gone on the site to stare at it at least once a day for the last week. I can’t afford it but I can admire it! If you want to splurge on this adorable bag, you can find it here.

Plato’s Closet: I. Love. Plato’s. Closet. One of them opened right near my school and I got up at 6:30 so that I could stand in line on opening day. If you knew me and my sleep schedule you would know how rare that is. I don’t get up at 6:30. Ever. My sister gets up at that time almost every day. I am up at 10. Maybe 9, but mostly 10. Let’s just say I need my beauty sleep. Haha

Anyway, my favorite purchase was this $64 The Hundreds sweater that I got for $20. In fact, I am wearing it right now. It’s just too comfortable. I literally slept in it the other night! I went to Plato’s closet vowing that I would walk out with an oversized sweatshirt. (If you went to my about page you would know that I love oversized clothing, esp. sweatshirts) Little did I know that little old size small me would end up in the Men’s large section! Out of everything I could have been looking at! But my mom and my sister knew to expect that. lol Hey, at least I wasn’t fighting anyone for command of the racks 😛

I also walked out with a long sleeved beige high low Forever 21 dress, a few cute and inexpensive oversized t-shirts (because as far as I’m concerned you can NEVER have too many oversized t-shirts), and an AMAZING pair of fluorescent pink BCBG Paris patent flats (a steal at just $14). If you have a Plato’s Closet anywhere within an hour’s drive, you should DEFINITELY go check it out.

Plato's Closet

MAC Snob: I saw this lipstick constantly repeated on Barefoot Blonde (my favorite fashion blog) and absolutely loved the way it looked on Amber! So when Nordstrom was having their Anniversary Sale (which unfortunately just ended) I took the opportunity to try it out. I definitely recommend this lipstick to everyone! I am also wearing this as I type. I know what you’re thinking: Who wears pink lipstick with an oversized men’s sweatshirt? …Well… I do! 😛 This lipstick goes on so smooth and for someone like me, who has a pet peeve of chapped lips, it moisturizes them really well.

MAC Snob

Jack Dawson: That’s right. The Titanic victim made famous by Leonardo DiCaprio. I just recently rewatched the movie with my friend Lexi and my childhood crush rushed back with that first smile. (I’m literally smiling incessantly as I type this). She promised that she would build a time machine and bring him back for me (even though the real Jack Dawson probably doesn’t come close to 23 year old Leo). This, however, is all a part of her larger plan to go back in time and execute her perfect Titanic escape plan: Using a mattress to survive the Titanic. (It’s not even that simple. She has every detail planned. It’s kind of amazing)

Jack Dawson*Swoon* Boots: When it comes to this site I’ll be perfectly honest: I’m not too fond of the clothes. I don’t know what it about them but they’re just not my style. BUT what they lack in clothes they more than make up for in shoes. Yes, some of them are a bit eccentric, but a little flare never hurt anyone! My obsession, however, lies specifically with the boots. This one has been over a year and a half in the making. I got a pair of knee high boots in chestnut back in my freshman year (similar: here) and I have never received so many complements on a pair of shoes in my entire life. However, because I loved them so much, I never took them off. SO by the end of the year I had broken the zipper and the boots had faded quite a bit (I liked to say it looked “loved”). But I was so obsessed with them that I just ordered another pair to replace them. I was not going to live without those boots!! Early in sophomore year (just as a reference point, I’m a rising junior), I invested in these thigh high black boots which I almost love even more than I love the chestnut ones! (I personally love chestnut colored boots so it was the color that sold me on the other ones. But this style is even cuter!)

However, even thought I got a new pair of the chestnut boots, I loved that pair even more than I loved the first one so I’m having a zipper problem again. I don’t want you to think these boots are not good quality. I just have abnormally large calves from 7 years of playing softball! Nothing that can’t be fixed, but I can’t do it in time to bring them abroad so I am bringing a different pair of chestnut boots that my mom got me (similar: here). If you can’t tell at this point, I REALLY like boots! Haha At least I’ll have my black Go Jane ones!

Go Jane Boot

And last but not least….

Tropical/Floral Prints: This all happened when I saw the cutest tropical print suit on Pinterest (pictured below). I literally stopped pinning and went to create a board tailored to tropical and floral prints. I spent an hour looking through this trend on Pinterest and the new board quickly became my 4th largest. Speaking that I’ve had my Pinterest for over a year, I’d say that’s an accomplishment!! My sister got me floral print sunglasses that I am in love with at Plato’s Closet (similar: here). I plan to invest more in this trend when I have the funds 😛

Tropical TrendThis is the suit that got me hooked. Those shoes are really cute too!
